The Acacia Strain: Continent

25/09/08  ||  Euthanatos

Deathcore. Apparently that’s a genre within metal now. It’s you people that do this. Don’t look away. You’re responsible for this. You know you are. You fucking fucks. Anyway, The Acacia Strain are Americans (obviously) and this is their fourth album. No, I haven’t listened to the previous ones, and I’m not going to. I don’t even know what possessed me to review this one. If I drank, I would say I was drunk at the time. But I don’t, which makes things even worse.

First thing that strikes me is the production; terrible. Sounds like they’re inside a well, it rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again. Must be the American economic recession making the dollar less valuable and, therefore, making these guys unable to hire a decent producer (the one here is Zeuss, who’s produced, wait for it, Hatebreed and Shadows Fall! Whoa! Didn’t see that one coming!).

Other than the production, it’s all good, right? No, it’s not, it’s boring and repetitive, and even though it only has 38 minutes, it feels like I just lost three hours of my life. The vocalist barks like a dog, the guitars sound like something dug out of the new metal grave and the song writing is extremely limited. Why does stuff like this get released? Is there actually a following for this band, let alone a whole genre? What in the fuck. This just bewilders me.

If you want to listen to death metal, go listen to Cannibal Corpse or Vomitory. If you want to listen to hardcore, go listen to Agnostic Front or Madball. Mix the two? If this is the offspring, kill it. Drown it in blood. Stick a coat hanger in there. Fucking annoying pieces of shit. There is only one, ONE redeeming thing about this album: a track called “Dr. Doom”. Best character ever, my personal favorite and he should be your god. But that’s it.

The cover: It’s a little kid looking at an explosion. With a lot of colors. A lot of colors. All the colors in the rainbow.

1 go fuck yourselves out of 10.
